FALL BALL 2019 AT BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK
This will be our 8th year of fall ball and our 7th year at Brooklyn Bridge Park. With a team at every age group, Brooklyn Lacrosse Club (BLC) is one of New York’s most comprehensive youth lacrosse organizations. This fall, we will have sessions every Sunday, starting September 8 and ending November 24. Some teams will have an additional midweek session on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending upon the availability of fields and coaches. Each practice will be led by experienced coaches, teaching beginning and/or advanced fundamentals of the game.
Mission: Our mission is to grow the game by removing barriers that can stand in the way of access to it, such as:
Cost - our cost per season is only $200- and we have need-based scholarships available. Inquire here, if you have a need.
Logistics - fields, goals, balls, uniforms, teams, games, refs, etc.
Perceptions - this is not your prep school’s lacrosse team. We look like Brooklyn. We pride ourselves on bringing the game to urban youth of the city, and we welcome all skill levels. Our emphasis is on skill development and teaching the game. While we do have select teams, that are focused on competitive development, we strive to give an experience that builds community amongst players and their families and makes them students of the game. There is a tremendous heritage in the game of lacrosse and we strive to honor it.
Lacrosse has so many facets to it, like mental toughness, coordination, teamwork, and conditioning, so it’s hard to outmatch the benefits of learning and playing. It can also be a pipeline for higher education, because so many of the traditional sports are saturated with talent, making it difficult to continue playing competitively beyond high school.
Teams: BLC has teams at the following age groups, so one is bound to fit your needs.
Peewee (co-ed, 3-6 years old)
Boys: U8, U10, U12, U14, U19
Girls: U8, U10, U12, U14, U19
Volunteers: Each team has at least 2 coaches, that coordinate practices and teach the fundamentals of the game. Many teams also have team parents that support the team just by being present and helpful. Maybe it’s just having an extra jersey or offering a ride to another player. Coaches and parents are the wheels that turn our program. Without them, we could not do what we do. If you’re interested in volunteering as a coach or team parent, this fall, please register in the role of your interest.
Practices and schedule: Fall practices are generally held on Sundays (8am-12p), at Pier 5- Brooklyn Bridge Park. Some teams will practice an additional day midweek at Brooklyn Bridge Park or on Saturday at Von King Park. The tentative schedule can be found on our schedule page. Each team occupies the field for about 60-90 minutes.
Registration and fees: The cost for the fall season is $200. That cost covers practices, any scrimmages, ref costs, and uniform (in the fall we give out a reversible jersey that is to be worn for practices and scrimmages).
