Announcing Boys U11 and U13 Select Teams – Fall 2018

Overview: The Select teams strive to compete at the highest levels of youth lacrosse in the tri-state area with the goal of advanced player development at the individual and team level. The fall season is less intense than the spring season, with one weekend and one weekday practice per week and a few games/tournaments. The fall season will run from early September through late November. Practice sessions will be led by experienced coaches. Players are encouraged to play additional sports in the fall, but are still expected to attend 75% of lacrosse practices and games. Program details are below.

  • The Under 11 (U11) Select team is for boys currently ages 9 and 10, born 8/31/07-8/30/09.

  • The Under 13 (U13) Select team is for boys currently ages 11 and 12, born 8/31/05-8/30/07.

Tryouts: For consideration, all players must register with BLC and indicate interest in the Select teams on the registration form. All players must attend at least one (but preferably both) of the tryouts scheduled as follows:

  • Sunday, September 9, 9:20a-10:40a , Pier 5 Brooklyn Bridge Park (Field 2)

  • Wednesday, September 12, 6:00p-8:00p, Pier 5 Brooklyn Bridge Park (Field 1)

Note that players on the Winter/Spring 2018 BLC Select teams are not guaranteed a spot on the Fall team; they will need to tryout. There will be separate tryouts for the Winter/Spring 2019 Selects team in December.

Registration and Fees: Fees will be $299 per player for the fall season. To support additional games/tournaments and coaching (along with insurance, U.S. Lacrosse membership and uniforms), fees are higher than for other BLC teams but are still much lower than for most other club lacrosse programs. There is no direct registration for the Select teams. Instead, follow the BLC registration process here, indicate your interest in the Select team on the registration form checkmark box, and pay the $99 regular team registration fee. If your player is selected after tryouts, you will receive an invitation to join the Select teams and pay the balance of $200. Boys who do not get selected to the teams will remain on the regular team roster (or may request a refund of the regular team’s $99 registration fee). Need-based scholarships may be available.

Tentative Practice Schedule:

  • Sundays 9:20a-10:40a  September 9-November 18, Pier 5 Brooklyn Bridge Park

  • Tuesdays 5:15p-7:00p September 18-October 30, Harold Ickes Playground (Red Hook)

  • Wednesdays 5:00p-7:00p September 12-November 14, Pier 5 Brooklyn Bridge Park

Games/Tournaments: Expect most games/tourneys to be on Sundays in NJ, LI, Westchester or NYC.

Coaching: Experienced, dedicated coaches are key to the Select team experience. Tim Pratt will be the head coach of the U11 Select team. Tim is a native of Long Island and played college lacrosse at Adelphi University. He has coached for BLC for three years and led the Winter/Spring 2018 U10 Select team to a very successful season. Seth Basham will be the head coach of the U13 Select team. Seth played college lacrosse at Colgate University. He has coached for BLC for five years and is also the director of the BLC Select program.  Tim and Seth will each have at least one assistant coach.

Winter/Spring Program: The winter/spring Select program will begin in December. It will require a 90% commitment level with lacrosse being the player’s primary sport, two indoor practices per week in winter (likely on Friday late afternoons/early evenings and Sunday mornings), three-four practices/games per week in spring and separate fees from the fall program.

Select Program Format. The Select team program will continue to be modeled after the inaugural Spring 2017 U11 Select team.
