Announcing Boys U10, U12 and U14 Select Teams 2019/2020

Overview: The Select teams strive to compete at the highest levels of youth lacrosse in the tri-state area with the goal of advanced player development at the individual and team level. The fall season is less intense than the spring season, with one weekend and one weekday practice per week at Brooklyn Bridge Park and a few games/tournaments in the tri-state area. All boys will practice with like-aged players in the fall—there will not be defined Select teams, although more advanced players may be invited to participate in more advanced drills during some practices. For games, players will be invited to play based on the level of competition. Separate Select teams will form for winter/spring season, running from early December, 2019 to mid-June, 2020. The fall season will run from September 8 through November 24. Practice sessions will be led by experienced coaches. Players are encouraged to play additional sports in the fall, but are still expected to attend 75% of lacrosse practices and games. Program details are below.

  • The Under 10 (U10) Select team is for boys currently ages 9 and 10, born 8/31/09-8/30/11.

  • The Under 12 (U12) Select team is for boys currently ages 9 and 10, born 8/31/07-8/30/09.

  • The Under 14 (U14) Select team is for boys currently ages 11 and 12, born 8/31/05-8/30/07.

Assessments: The fall season will focus on skill development. Coaches will also assess boys during the season in consideration for the winter/spring Select teams. In December, there will be tryouts available for players interested in joining the Select teams but who decide not to play lacrosse in the fall.

Registration and Fees: Fees will be $200 per player for the fall season. Follow the BLC registration process here.

Tentative Practice Schedule (pending field permitting):

Coaching: Experienced, dedicated coaches are key to the Select team experience. Seth Basham will be the head coach of the U14 Select team. Seth played college lacrosse at Colgate University. He has coached for BLC for six years and is also the director of the BLC Select program. Tim Pratt will be the head coach of the U12 Select team. Tim is a native of Long Island and played college lacrosse at Adelphi University. He has coached for BLC for four years, most recently leading the Winter/Spring 2019 U11 Select team to a very successful season. Tim Dearborn will be the head coach of the U10 Select team. Tim has coached with BLC for three years and is a board member. There will be at least one experienced assistant coach for each Select team.

Scheduling Note: We recognize that it is difficult to schedule other activities for your children without definitive timing of practices. Unfortunately, we must wait for field permits before we can create a definitive schedule.  Please tentatively plan on the schedule outlined above and we will update it ASAP.

Winter/Spring Select Program: The winter/spring Select program will begin in December and run through mid-June; the extended season will build skills and develop team chemistry. It will require a 75% commitment level in the winter (December-February) and a 90% commitment level in the spring (March-June) with lacrosse being the player’s primary sport. We plan one indoor practice per week in the winter, Sunday mornings at Socceroof in Sunset Park. We plan one or two midweek practices per week in the spring and two weekend practices or games on most weekends in the spring. There will be separate fees from the fall program for the winter/spring Select teams.

Select Program Format. The Select team program will continue to be modeled after the inaugural Spring 2017 U11 Select team.
