Boys U12 Select Team - Winter/SPRING 2018
Announcing Boys U12 Select Team – Winter/Spring 2018
Team Overview. U12 Boys Select’s winter/spring season is around the corner. We encourage all U12 boys—(players were were not yet 12 by LAST August 8/31/17)—to try out for the team in January!
This team seeks to compete at the highest levels of youth lacrosse in the tri-state area with the goal of advanced player development at the individual and team level. The team will practice 2-3 times per week and compete in at least 12 games or tournaments through an extended season from January 7 to June 23. Training sessions will be led by experienced coaches. Players are expected to make lacrosse their primary spring sport, with a commitment to attend 90% of practices and games (including indoor practices starting in January). We are very happy to announce our brand new indoor training facility, Socceroof! This indoor turf facility along the Brooklyn waterfront on 53rd St. will facilitate development of box and field lacrosse skills. Program details are below.
Tryouts: For consideration, all players must register with BLC’s regular program and attend at least one (but preferably both) of the tryouts on Sunday, January 7th (9:00a-10:30a) and Friday, January 19th(4:30p-6:00p) at Socceroof. Boys who do not get selected to the team will remain on the regular team roster (or may request a refund of the regular team $99 registration fee). Note that players on the Fall 2017 U12 Select Team are not guaranteed a spot on the Winter/Spring 2018 U12 Select Team; they will need to tryout.

Games/Tournaments: Expect most games to be on Saturdays in NJ, LI, Westchester or NYC (including Pier 5). Some games will be on Sundays. June Saturdays will be for tournaments.
Coaching: Experienced, dedicated coaches are key to the Select team experience. Tim Pratt, who has coached for BLC for two years and assisted the Spring 2017 U11 Select Team and Fall 2017 U12 Select, will be the head coach. He will have two assistant coaches. Seth Basham, who helped develop the Select program and head coaches the U12 Select Team, will be actively involved.
Fees: $599 per player. To support paid coaching, additional field/gym time and additional games/tournaments, (along with insurance, U.S. Lacrosse membership and uniforms), fees will be higher than for other BLC teams. These fees are still much lower than for most other club lacrosse programs. $99 payable upon registration, $500 payable upon selection to team in January. Boys who do not get selected to the team will remain on the regular team roster (or may request a refund of the regular team’s $99 registration fee). Need-based scholarships may be available Need-based scholarships may be available.
Scheduling Note: We recognize that it is difficult to schedule other activities for your children without definitive timing of practices. Unfortunately, we must wait for field permits before we can create a definitive schedule. Please tentatively plan on the schedule outlined above and we will update it ASAP. Note that there will not be any games or practices on Memorial Day weekend, although we may plan a trip to the NCAA finals in Foxborough, MA for those interested. Our final tournament will be June 16/17 or June 23.
Select Program Format. The U10 Select team program will be modeled after the Spring 2017 U11 Select team.
