Age Specific Goals

The Brooklyn Lacrosse Club has set age-specific goals for each of our teams.  These goals help coaches shape practices, set player goals and work with parent's expectations.

 

Beginners are always welcomed along the way, as we view ourselves as a teaching organization first and foremost.

Pee Wee Goals

 

The goals for children in the Pee Wee group is to learn basic stick skills and movements that will build enjoyment and a fundamental foundation for the game we  love. Aside from a stick, equipment is  or recommended, as the development of fundamental skills is more comfortably learned without.

 

The coaches at this level are specifically selected for their  and disposition to teaching beginners.

 

Skills learned will include:

  • Catching
  • Throwing 
  • Cradling
  • Shooting the Ball
  • Defensive Positioning and Footwork

3rd and 4th Grade Goals

 

When players arrive at this, full  will be introduced. There is no  allowed at this age group, so the equipment serves mostly to get the players  to their  skills and movements with it on.

 

Skills learned will include:

  • Catching (with opposite hand)
  • Throwing (with opposite hand)
  • Dodging
  • Shooting the Ball to a Location
  • Defensive Positioning and Stick Work
  • Field Positioning
  • Rules Awareness
  • Moving Without the Ball
  • Face-offs
  • Team Play and Field Communication

5th and 6th Grade Goals

 

Modified body checking is allowed.  One of the main goals at this grade level is to begin to translate all of the fundamental skills learned into an enjoyable full field team experience.

 

Skills learned will include:

  • Clearing the Ball
  • Over the Shoulder Pass/Catch
  • Quick-Stick Shooting
  • Defensive Riding
  • Offensive Spacing
  • Players at Multiple Positions/Goalies
  • Penality/Extra Man Situations
  • Fast Breaks
  • "Man/Ball" Ground Ball Communication
  • Defensive Slides
  • Isolation Offense
  • Goalie Calls and Communication

7th and 8th Grade Goals

 

Players at this level will be able to take the full field concepts learned at the 5th and 6th level and translate them into a more advanced team experience.

 

Skills learned will include:

  • Position Selection
  • Set Offense
  • Set Clearing Strategy
  • Man Up, Man Down Strategy
  • Team Riding Strategy
  • Set Defense Strategy (Zone vs. Man-to-Man)
